Himalayan regions of Leh, Kashmir, and Himachal Pradesh, of the northern most India, are popular destinations for adventure enthusiasts, particularly those who love to ride motorcycles. The rugged terrain, picturesque landscapes, and serene surroundings make it an ideal place for a motorcycle adventure tour. Rajasthan in the North West and Southern India are also very popular and offer a different experience. Each region can have extremes of weather on any one day, so preparation is key! However, before you set off on any of these adventures, it’s important to make some preparations to ensure a safe and enjoyable trip. In this guide, we’ll provide you with a comprehensive checklist of things you need to prepare before embarking on your motorcycle adventure tour in India!

Riding Gear
  • Helmet: Choose a full-face helmet with good ventilation and proper fit.
  • Riding Jacket: Opt for a high-quality, armored jacket for protection against weather and impact.
  • Riding Pants: Invest in durable, abrasion-resistant pants with knee and hip armor.
  • Riding Gloves: Get gloves with good grip and protection for your hands.
  • Riding Boots: Choose sturdy, calf-high boots with excellent traction.
  • Balaclava.

Note:- Quality Riding Gear that fits properly and is comfortable is COMPULSORY and is for your safety. We do not provide riding gear for rent.

Clothing
  • Layered Clothing: Carry a mix of lightweight and warm clothing for varying weather conditions.
  • Riding T-shirts: Moisture-wicking, breathable t-shirts for comfortable riding.
  • Thermals (2 pairs): Pack thermal undergarments for cold temperatures.
  • Waterproof Jacket and Pants (Compulsory): Stay dry during rain or snow.
  • Riding Socks (3 pairs): Comfortable and moisture-wicking socks to keep your feet dry.
Personal Items
  • Passport and ID: Carry your identification documents, including a copy of your passport.
  • Cash and Cards: Have sufficient local currency and backup credit/debit cards.
  • Travel Insurance: Ensure you have comprehensive travel insurance covering medical emergencies ( including repatriation to your country of origin ) and motorcycle accidents. It is important to cover for Motorcycles over 250cc, as not all policies do so!
  • Mobile Phone: Carry a fully charged phone with a local SIM card or International Roaming and emergency contact numbers.
  • Power Bank: Keep a portable charger for charging your devices on the go.
  • Earplugs: Protect your ears from wind noise during long rides.
  • Toiletries bag (Toothpaste, Toothbrush, Shaving cream/Foam, Razor, Comb, Hair Oil)
First Aid Kit
  • Basic Medications: Include painkillers, anti-diarrhoea tablets, motion sickness pills, etc.
  • Bandages and Dressings: Carry adhesive bandages, gauze, and antiseptic ointment.
  • Personal Prescription Medications: If applicable, bring your prescribed medications
Miscellaneous
  • Hydration System: Carry a hydration pack or water bottles to stay hydrated. This is compulsory!
  • Snacks: Pack energy bars, trail mix, or other lightweight snacks for quick refueling.
  • Sunscreen (SPF 45+) and Lip Balm: Protect your skin and lips from sunburn and dryness.
  • Sunglasses: Opt for polarized sunglasses to reduce glare.
  • Camera: Capture the stunning Himalayan landscapes with a camera or smartphone.

All riders' Safety is of utmost importance to us. As you are aware, some tours involve motorcycling on treacherous Himalayan Mountains roads which means that you are exposed to the following risk factors

  1. High Altitude Sickness leading to Pulmonary Oedema.
  2. Exhaustion due to stressful driving.
  3. Falls during riding or hiking leading to ordinary or serious injuries.
  4. Any unforeseen natural activity resulting in serious injuries.

It is emphasised again that the above risk can lead to simple injury/serious injury/loss of limb/temporary or permanent disability/ death.

Roaming Horizons will provide adequate assistance in the above circumstances but can not be held responsible for any risks mentioned or not mentioned above.

Please consult your doctor regarding the medicines that you should get

  • Diamox Tabs – 15 (Compulsory) for all Himalayan Mountain tours

If you happen to have a major surgery, heart ailment or Asthma, we request you consult your doctor before joining the trip. Kindly inform us of your medical condition before joining the tour.

Packing for a long ride requires a lot of pre-preparation for a hassle-free journey.

We suggest you Carry

  • HIGH:- 01 Small Bag / Tank Bag ( For Necessary Items while Riding ) (NOT MANDATORY)
  • MODERATE:- 01 Backpack Small ( For 03 Days Cloths & Other Essential Items )
  • LEAST:- 01 Main Luggage ( For Other Items )

Categorize your things into three categories based on the usability during the ride.

  • HIGH – Item required an instant during the ride – 10 mins break
  • MODERATE – Items required on a Long break and for the Next 3 Days
  • LEAST – Items required at the end of the day

Note:- HIGH (Instant requirements ) These items have to be packed in a bag where accessibility is easy and quick – like Tank Bag, Waist bag, Backpack Etc.

  • Cash for shopping, lunch, etc.
  • Medicines – Fever, Cold, Stomach ache, Band-Aid, Relief spray etc.
  • Snacks – Quantity required only for the day, Separate it from main luggage – (Chocolates, Nuts, energy bars, etc.)
  • Protective wear – Thermal gloves, Rain Gear, Scarf, socks
  • Other Essential – Tissues paper, Vaseline, Sunscreen, Small cloth ( Cleaning headlight, helmet visor & rear mirror ), Torch Light, AA Pencil batteries, Power Bank, Camera Chargers

  • Next Three Days Clothing’s (Lower – 01 and T-Shirt – 02 andThermal inners )
